EU-Africa Trust Fund

Global budget: EUR 813 million (9th and 10th EDF)

  • EU funding: The AITF has benefited so far by 5 successive COM decisions amounting to EUR 647,700,000. Two were under the 9th EDF, for the total value of 108,700,000; and three form the 10th EDF as following:
    • 9 ACP PRP 96: EUR 60,000,000
    • 9 ACP PRP 201: EUR 48,700,000
    • The one indicated below of EUR 200,000,000
    • An additional decision for the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) of EUR 329,000,000
    • An allocation from the NIP of Benin of EUR 10,000,000

MS have contributed c. 165,000,000 EUR

Objectives:

The objective of the EU-Africa infrastructure Trust Fund is contribute to economic development, growth, integration at regional level and poverty reduction through the mobilisation of resources for regional interconnectivity infrastructure projects. The project aims to increase the available financing for infrastructure projects in Sub-Saharan Africa covering the following sectors : Energy, Transport (rail, road, air, maritime and inland waterways); Water; and Information Technology.

Expected results include:

  • Increased financing for infrastructure projects in Sub-Saharan Africa,
  • Increased access to: (i) modern energy, infrastructure and services, (ii)  improved transport services (iii) enhanced water distribution and sanitation services, (iv) speed internet data.
